The new tournament begins!! Turtle vs Crain
Welcome to Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
SPEAKER_03And we're back. I'm Truban. And I'm Jesse. And this is Becoming Saiyans of Dragon Ball Rewatch Podcast. On today's episode, we watched episodes 84 and 85 of Dragon Ball titled Rivals and Arrivals and Preliminary Peril. Rivals and Arrivals came out in October 21st, 1987 in Japan, and in America, December 5th, 2002, whereas Preliminary Peril came out uh on October 28, 87, and December 6, 2002. Um jumping into some differences from the manga and trivia. The Goku swimming to Papaya Island and his encounter with the ship isn't in the manga. The actual scene of the uh the group buckling their seatbelt isn't shown in the manga. The scene of Goku being attacked by the tigers isn't in the manga. In the manga, upon uh seeing Goku's new height, he tells um he tells them um that he's grown a bit too, and in the anime he thinks this to himself. Um in the manga, the tournament's events and happenings all occur on the exact same day. The anime will stretch this out so the tournament takes place over four days. Um the group goes to the restaurant that they went to celebrate after the last tournament. Roshi has to tell the manager to wait a few days so he can get the prize money. Afterward, they check into a hotel, play game of cards, all that stuff. That's all added from what it seems. Trivia is in the manga in the original Japanese version, launches tense while flying in the in the plane because she feels the need to hijack it. Uh, where in the Funimation Dub she's angry Jackie Chung is mentioned. This change was made to not affect the victims of the 9-11 terrorist hijackers. Sounds like a good choice. So you know this came out in a year after it happened. Yep. Um the as a result of the above change, Roshi's request to the stewardess is changed from him having to use the bathroom to wanting to leave the plane in case Launch just finds out about his identity. Later on, his reference to being in the airport bathroom was downplayed in the English stove. When he returns from signed up as Jackie Chum, another bathroom-related excuse is removed. This happens a fourth time later on. Um Launch muses about the prize money in the Japanese version and wonders if she should enter too, only for Turtle to tell her that weapons aren't allowed. The English dub changes us about her being bored about having to watch a fight without or with all those rules. Yamsha and Krillin wore their respective uh the Orin Temple and Desert Bandit uniforms last time they were um last time during a scene when the two trained at night before the tournament. They like put on their OG outfits, which I thought was cool. Goku returns to wearing the turtle uh school uniform at the end of the episode. And the tigers disregarding Goku, giving them fruit, may be a uh reference to how the tiger thief declined Chow's uh offering of rice balls. Maybe. Or it could just be that tigers are carnivores, you know, that could be the easier answer in my opinion.
SPEAKER_00But I mean I I I think you're really stret they're really stretching on that fact.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Despite the anime making it clear that non-participants are forbidden from watching preliminaries. Shin can be seen watching in the monk's opening speech with TN and Chiatsu, which is like that's literally like he just broke the rules, he's just standing there.
SPEAKER_00Um who's gonna tell him no, apparently.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um, one of the fighters, which I think we pointed out, looked like Nom. And um the other there's a bear wrestler who looks like the bear uh karate fighter that uh Krillin defeated in the prelims last round. And the funner function dub, Puar's line that says, Hey, where's Masiroshi? is performed by a different actor or actress. Um The old tournament monk is recast from Zane, uh, you know, actors changes of the previous there. Um Differences from the manga preliminary peril is uh the referee's opening announcement isn't in the manga. Krillin is Fighter 62 in the anime while being 71 in the manga. Uh Tienen and Shotsu recognizing Goku is an anime exclusive because that anime episode was filler. Goku remembering them is also, because again, same reason. That whole interaction where they're like him, them, is all just completely added because they didn't meet each other until just now. Um Bullna worrying about how the boys will do isn't in the manga. She uh Shin does come along and it uh try to hit on them. Um that is at that is part of it, and he does catch the the bullets, but she just doesn't say that one line. Um Fighter 2 Breaking Boards is not in the manga. Anton the Great's name and background are not mentioned in the manga. Krillin is shown to be a little bit intimidated, but here he doesn't show any fear. Krillin and Anton's fight is actually longer in uh in the anime. That's a longer fight, which I guess is probably like the struggling, is probably adding in the whole thing like, you know, before I became a fighter, I thought I might be an actor. Did you like my acting?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that seems to probably be the most likely case.
SPEAKER_03Uh the crane students uh face off with the turtle students is a little bit longer in the anime, they add a little bit extra in there. Um the Kimpo user insulting the sumo wrestler and his beating is not in the manga. That's like the whole like you're too fat to fight, blah, blah, blah, and he like punches him into the wall. Yeah. Or smacks him. He doesn't even like punch him, he's an open-hand push him into the wall. Trivia. Random participants in the preliminary round can be seen outside the ring, and including a fighter who looks like a muscular Dr. Brief. I did not catch that. Um, but the wrestling champ Krillon Fights has a face that's similar to Bandage's the Mummy. I did notice that one. The guy who taunts the Sumo Wrestler looks a little bit like Mercenary Catal, but with a bald head and no facial hair. Um that one I did not see. Um the Mohawk fighter has a face that's identical to a character we'll meet later on in Dragon Ball Z. I also didn't catch that one. But there are some tournament fighters in this episode that are can uh cameos. The participant that looks like Hulk Hogan. Uh there's a Krillin's first opponent, Antoine the Great, which is Andre the Giant. Apparently it's a cameo. Like maybe he actually like voices it that might be what I think. Maybe I don't I don't know. It doesn't say that here, but he does say it's a cameo, so I would think that's a chance that it could be that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I feel like you if you'd be like a reference if it wasn't like just a reference.
SPEAKER_03Um during Tien's standoff with Yamcha, a fighter that recognizes um or that resembles Go Nagai's devil man, not Spike, um, can be seen from behind. When Jackie's uh uh assessing the Sumer Wrestler's ability, a fighter resembling Shin from the Fist of the North Star can be seen behind them. Uh Krillin states that his parents were six feet tall after Chiyatsu called him a midget and walked away. This is the in the Funimation dub in the Japanese, he had him insult uh Tien by calling him the most detestable under the heavens, a pun towards the Japanese name, you know. Um contestants start uh starting a fight as an official tournament on during the tournament as grounds for disqualification, which has, you know, been shown up later. Yet no official reprimand the uh the sumo wrestler for smacking him outside the I was I was think I thought that that the s I also thought that I was like, what what are we doing? You literally just brought this up, and it's been a rule at both, so I was like, okay, at least the rules are following, but then that happens, and I'm like, yeah, what the heck?
SPEAKER_00I should also point out uh Audrey Giant uh passed away in 93. So you would not have been voicing it.
SPEAKER_03It's just a cameo uh a cameo of appearance.
SPEAKER_00This is a this is it was an Easter egg, but they're calling them cameos either.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um, and as far as trivia, that's all we got. So, previously on Dragon Ball, the race is on to uh to get signed up for the tournament. Um luckily for us, there's an airplane that exists, and so Roshi, um, Yamcha, Krillin, Puar, Turtle, Bulma, and Launch are all there ready, and two of those people sign up. While also, um, you know, Roshi goes over and signs up his cousin, Jackie Chun, to be a part of the event.
SPEAKER_00Jackie Chun's back.
SPEAKER_03They're all stressing about uh about Goku showing up in time when the crane students show up. Tien and mystery person who does Oh, we do actually learn his name. Chiatsu, we did learn his name. Tien, Shinhan, and Chiatsu sign up for the tournament. Oh, we learn his name in the second episode. Um, Goku also shows up right at the buzzer, saving us from Manantic where Puar has to pretend to be Goku. Um, even though that doesn't seem it would have come up in the s situation. But Goku shows up in time wearing a loincloth from his adventures on the B plot of the beginning of this episode.
SPEAKER_00Which is where he beat a bunch of tigers.
SPEAKER_03Goku's plot is that he's he's uh speed racing through the water to get to this island. He ends up on the other side of the island against some tigers after he's getting some fruit, looked like a honeydew, maybe, or a cantaloupe.
SPEAKER_00I'm good as a few.
SPEAKER_03It wasn't a coconut because it was orange on the other side.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna assume because it's papaya island. It might have been supposed to be papayas.
SPEAKER_03Um, tigers weren't interested. Goku uh presumably killed them and skinned them alive to make an outfit for himself and sped off towards the the tournament. After that, we kind of just take a little break. We get to watch them relax, eat some food, play some cards, do them what they need to do. Yeah, it could be a papaya. Jesse just showed me a picture of him. Um moving into the next episode, we have Goku and everybody getting their lots drawn for the tournament in the beginning of the preliminary rounds where we watch um Yamsha knock out somebody in one punch. We watch Krillin throw somebody out of the ring. We have a little bit of a scuffle between Tien, Chiatsu, and the gang. Um, and then we see Tien absolutely pulverize. We found out it was four punches and three kicks in like a nanosecond of time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it seems like the only people who could have seen that would have been people on Goku and there's level, which would be like which as we know of in this hall, would have been Jiatsu, Tien, because we're assuming Jiatsu's on that level.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then Chun, Goku, and then Goku.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Jackie Chung. Uh and then right before the turn right before Goku's turn starts, we get left on a cliffhanger where he's fighting the strongest person in the world who King Choppa. King Choppa, who um had never let last time he participated in the uh tournament, never had a punch landed upon him.
SPEAKER_00And obviously he won it at that point.
SPEAKER_03And that's where the episode leaves off. So that's what you missed on Dragon Ball. Jesse, go for it.
SPEAKER_00I love a tournament arc. I think we've we discussed this the last tournament arc. We both love a tournament arc. We are suckers for tournament arcs, call us basic little white boys watching anime, but we love watching people fight each other in a tournament situation. I think it's I think part of that comes from our the b our background of like being big, especially American sports fans. Yeah. Where it's like, oh I'd love the playoffs, is when it gets real good. Like, like right now, NHL playoffs start soon, NBA playoffs technically tipped off a couple days ago because we're recording this as the play-in is happening still. Yeah. Like we're getting to the playoffs of a lot of sports here. We we loved playoffs. Playoffs are awesome. Tournament arts are just playoffs with digger.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, tournament arts are just playoffs, but with all of our fun characters and our fun outfits, you know.
SPEAKER_00So so obviously we're gonna love them just by our back background.
SPEAKER_03Before we get too far into this episode, Jesse, I have something I need to tell the audience. Yes. And that is happy birthday, Jesse. As we're recording this, Jesse's birthday was two days ago. But as you guys watch this, it'll be three weeks and two days ago. So, but happy birthday, happy belated birthday. Um and so, yeah, Jesse, you know what's funnier than 24?
SPEAKER_0025, I'm gonna be.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so um, anyways, I just wanted to get that out of the way during the beginning of this episode before we got too far in.
SPEAKER_00When we recorded, uh, because you we passed your birthday. I completely forgot to wish you happy birthday on the podcast. Yeah, I know it's real rude that you didn't I didn't even think about because I we had a lot, we also had a lot going on around my birthday. Yeah, your birthday, your birthday was a it was for reference, uh Sherman's birthday was around the time where we had the the really emotional episodes.
SPEAKER_03So uh well we had the ones where we had my friend pass away in real life, our mom witnessing all of that case.
SPEAKER_00Sherman had a pretty depressing birthday. Compared to my birthday, which I guess hasn't been too depressing.
SPEAKER_03Better be knock-on on the wood table we're recording on right now.
SPEAKER_00Um and then in uh two uh to yeah, two days after recording this will be our mom's birthday.
SPEAKER_03Yep. And so, yeah. Um, but that was just a little sidebar there. Let you get back to your thoughts. I decided to throw that in there real quick. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like I again I I love Mia Tournament Arc. And so far, the only thing I w I would have wished for from this episode was being able to watch Goku's for fight. And I obviously, like, as we get as it starts to like get into it, we learn who he's fighting. Like, okay, they're obviously gonna leave us on a cliffhanger. Yeah. And there it goes, like, there's a cliffhanger.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um and uh the funniest part is gonna be when the cliffhanger is paid off in the the first two seconds when Goku smacks him 57 times and you know, throws him up upside down out of the ring in like two seconds.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but obviously we're just skipping to a quick prediction. That Goku's fight is not gonna make it beyond like 15 seconds of the of the show actually. Of the episode actually, of the property. Yeah, like skipping the recap and obviously the like the opening sequence, like Goku's gonna probably two hit this man at most.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I I can definitely see that coming. Like, there's no way they're gonna leave on like they're not gonna waste half of an episode of a tournament saga on Goku fighting one person when we're not even to the like once we get to the semis and the quarters and stuff, like then they'll start doing more of that, but not here. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's all it's also just like it's a great way to showcase how much stronger Goku has gotten in the last three years. Because everyone's like, oh god, I wonder how much Goku's gotten stronger. I wonder how Goku is. And it's like, oh, he's going up against the untouched champion of like who's gonna be a good one. Yeah, like you're they're facing off against this man. It's like, of course, Goku's just gonna absolutely wipe the floor with him. And put everyone on notice.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's like that we you can tell that's coming just because of the way like story works.
SPEAKER_00Just because of the way Goku like it's been a it this stuff has happened with Goku in the past. It's like how is she gonna beat this man? And it's like, unless it's like Jackie Chun in the championship out, it's pretty easily actually. Yeah. Or uh, what is it, uh Mercenary Tower. Where it's like, oh, he gets a rematch in like four episodes, if you've even that.
SPEAKER_03Um first thing I wanted to point out in these episodes was Goku's like insane speed while like swimming. Like he is he is bolting it. Like he's he catches up to a freighter and he has to slow down to talk to them because he's you know that he's going so fast that he's just gonna fly past them. They thought they were getting shot at by a torpedo. Like they took invasive actions because they thought they were about to die. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it's like, no, it's just a casual, just like 12-year-old swims in the ocean.
SPEAKER_02Hey buddy, what are you doing down there? I just have a question real quick. Which way to Papaya Island? It's that way. Oh, thank you. Was that mermaid?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's a pretty pretty that's a cold open for the episode too, because then right after that's when we get the tournament saga banger back.
SPEAKER_00I think it's a slightly uh slightly different one because obviously it's a different tournament, like location and stuff, but it yeah, it's it's nice to like just immediately like, okay, we're back. We got a we got a nice what how many y'all watched this song? We said it was like 15, 16. Something like that.
SPEAKER_03It's a it's a it's a hefty one, and there's a lot, there's a lot in it.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, we're we're strapped in for some fun, fun fighting for the next couple of weeks here on the podcast.
SPEAKER_03My next note was Roshi, please, please, Roshi, no, no, Roshi, please, with the flight attendant. Yeah. I was like, oh god, they're setting this up.
SPEAKER_00I was thinking the same thing.
SPEAKER_03They were set so Roshi's like acting uncomfortable, not wanting to put his seatbelt on, is being kind of crazy. We find out that there's a couple other things going on there, differences in animation and uh dubs and stuff. But like when I was when we were watching it, I was like, please, Roshi, this is a perfect perv moment to put Roshi in. And please don't do it. Flight attendants are worth more than that, Roshi. Please, no. And it wasn't that. It wasn't that, which is very good, actually. I'm very happy with that. The restraint shown there was great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No idea what that was. That was your cat.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But then we jump into the fun bit with Goku, where he gets to the island. He's like, Oh, I'm hungry. Let's go eat some food, climbs up a tree. Um, it seems to be papaya tree. I thought it could be a cantaloupe because the outside kind of looks like a cantaloupe. But papaya makes more sense. I don't even think cantaloupes grow in.
SPEAKER_00I I literally wrote down, I literally wrote down in my uh my notes, I'm like, that's probably a papaya. Because I was like, well, it's papaya island, and I know papaya are like fruity things. I didn't know exactly how they grew or like what I was r I distinctly remember I think they were orange on the inside. Yeah. Just makes sense by the name of the island.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, that makes more sense, but it to me it looked like a cantaloupe.
SPEAKER_00I did think it was a cantaloupe too. I was like, is it it's either a papaya or a cantaloupe? Because it's definitely not a coconut.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's some sort of melon. I think a papaya is technically a melon.
SPEAKER_03So and then I you know, then we jump ahead, we know we're doing all the Roshi, and then he oh wait, and then Goku, we cut away from Goku after he's like, oh no, these tigers, what do you guys want? That's where we leave them.
SPEAKER_00And then like they jump on top of them, and that's where you you flash back to them, uh to Roshi and all of them landing at the airport, and everyone be like, Man, we're Roshi couldn't wait to get off the plane. Now I can't even get him out of the airport. Yeah. And then it's like that's where he apparently comes back from the bathroom.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, where he went to because the whole time he was begging to go to the bathroom. He was told no. There was supposed to be a potty humor joke there in the Japanese version. But they changed the dubbing for the Americ or for English version, and then they had to change the dubbing again because uh 9-11 happened, so Well, I think the Japanese version she does I assume she does make a terrorism joke.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, because uh did I miss did I misinterpret what I mean?
SPEAKER_03I'm I might have misread it, but I I believe it was something different. Like it was pretty similar to what happened here, you know, or you know, that kind of thing. But I could be wrong. I I might have misread it. Um, but yeah. And then we go to them at the tournament registering, and it's uh we get we gotta run into our Jackie Chun nonsense, where Jackie Chun doesn't show up until the second he's needed. So Roshi has to has to sh pretend to be Jackie Chung so that Jackie can sign up. And I mean that's a real cousin right there. It's a real boy. That's a real boy. I mean nice to have your family looking out for you like that, making sure you can't.
SPEAKER_01That's why he's the goats.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's why Roshi's the best character is because he signs up his cousin for these tournaments, you know. It allows us to ignore everything else.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And you know, he also the thing that makes Roshi kind of rough is that he's constantly having to go to the bathroom during the tournament, so he's never around to help with other stuff. That's one of the sad parts is that Roshi also has bladder issues.
SPEAKER_00But you know, bladder or colon issues.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then I I kind of didn't write a whole lot here uh during the other parts, but this was the next thing I had was a second old man has hit the tower.
SPEAKER_00I was like, Crane is Shin. Yeah, and then Shin's a doo-doo head.
SPEAKER_03And then, you know, we finally figure out that Tien, which Jesse during last week's episode said Tien is too cool of a name for that character. And I I wanted to say so hard that like Jesse, you're not ready. You're not ready. Tien is and I'll just let it I let it go. I was like, oh yeah, Jesse, yeah, you maybe you're right. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I totally agree. You really could assume like Tien's too cool for Tien is still too cool for that man, by the way. Let me let me reiterate this. T like that man, that man should be called like like I don't know, Greg.
SPEAKER_03Um that that and you couldn't see that, but I did an office cutaway gag where I cut to the camera looking like you know, giving him giving him like uh you hear what this guy is saying. If you know, you know out there. TN TN, yeah. If you know, you know.
SPEAKER_00Just he's not there yet, but I'll admit it. T and TN is actually like watching his fight, like his pimp fight proper. Yeah. Like, obviously, I'm I'm just joshing about talking about like he doesn't deserve that name. Like, obviously he's he's built different. Give me that, you give me your name, Ted boy! You don't get that! Like, obviously he's built different, but it's it's just funny to be like, man, doesn't deserve it. Now um I will tell you who does deserve their name. And we're not we're not quite there yet. What is what uh Chiatsu?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Now that is a name for a little white face. Yeah, like a little white-faced little person.
SPEAKER_03Chiatsu is a fun, is a fun name to say. Like when because you they're they're always paired up together too. Like later on, they're like when they you know, you know, inevitably stuff happens with them. It's like Tien's like, come on, Chiatsu, we're gonna go train.
SPEAKER_02And it's like, no, Tien, you can go by yourself, you know. Uh Chatsu's like, I want to hang out with the boys, and he's like, no, we gotta go train, Chatsu.
SPEAKER_03Let's go.
SPEAKER_01Come on, come on now, we gotta go train. Let's go.
SPEAKER_03And then yeah, uh Krillin being tall or being mad that he's shorter than Goku now. That was a fun gag. Yeah. Because this is before the interaction where Chatsu Chatsu's great. We'll we'll get there, we'll get there. But like that where where we're at now, Goku shows up and they're like, Goku, you've gotten taller, and he's like, I have. And he's just like a couple inches taller than you. And he Krillin's like, it's all freaking hair anyway.
SPEAKER_00No, again, I I I what I love about Chatsu and Tian is like I recognize them. Like, I I know something about these characters, but at the same time, I don't know what that something is.
SPEAKER_03You know these characters stick around for a while, but you don't know.
SPEAKER_00I know they're recurring, but I don't remember like obviously if they're recurring in Dragon Ball, odds are they're recurring because Goku befriends them at the end. Yeah. And they become like allies. But I don't know what they help with. Yeah, you don't have to be.
SPEAKER_02I don't know what you guys do.
SPEAKER_03I don't know what you guys do, and I I'm scared, but I I recognize you.
SPEAKER_00It's like I've seen like I've definitely seen something, whether it's like a meme or just like a funny screenshot, where they're there. Yeah. They're not from the original Dragon Ball.
SPEAKER_03They're around in Dragon Ball Z. I will go ahead and spoil it, Jesse. Tian and Shotsu hang around after the saga is over. They're not a one and um like I yeah. They're not a Nom. Tell me exactly what I already did. Jesse, don't worry. I'll spoil this for you. They're more important than Nom.
SPEAKER_02Hey, Nom is important.
SPEAKER_00Hey, D.
SPEAKER_03For one episode after the tournament saga.
SPEAKER_00But he came back.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but that's like, you know, that that's better than we can say for bacteria so far. Yeah. We were we both thought during the preliminaries, we'll get there, but we both thought that that giant was bacteria. That was it. I have a couple of notes for the first episode before we get there, though. Number one, uh Roshi thinking he's gonna be able to steal the prize money from Jackie Chun after Jackie Chun wins the tournament, is hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Well, Jackie Chun probably doesn't need the money.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but it's like, you know, he's Roshi's building a whole like Island Paradise.
SPEAKER_00That's what we've theorized so far.
SPEAKER_03But he's like, you know, my my cousin uh Jackie will give me the money to pay this in a few days, which is just presuming that Jackie's gonna win. It's either that or he's gonna have to steal it from one of his pupils, is the like runner-up idea for what's going on here. Yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_00Um though.
SPEAKER_03My second note is, you know, these are some like first of all, we find out it's the same island, that's the same restaurant they went to. Um the moments where they're playing cards was really nice and quaint. It's like the calm before the storm. It's like the last time we're hanging out with these guys as like a group all together, because we gotta split the group once the tournament starts.
SPEAKER_00While we're not like actively competing with each other.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which is always it's nice. Like when you when you have a friend group like, because I because you know, I know you go to like Pokemon Tournaments. Yeah. You've been going to Pokemon Tournaments recently. Yeah. And like, you know, like once you get a big enough friends group of that, like, if you all meet up at the same tournament, I'm sure you guys will have like I'm sure you guys will have a dinner and it's like, okay, now if we get paired up with each other, it's like do or die time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. We uh I actually do have a couple of friends that we missed each other on days we were gonna be at tournaments because like one of my friends is going to Indianapolis, but like I'm not going to Indianapolis because I'm going to NAIC. And it's like, well, I can't go to NAIC because they those tickets went out immediately. They were gone within 40 seconds. Like, I'm not even kidding, guys. That this tournament, like, it was like if you didn't click the button the second the clock hit nine o'clock in the open the registration opened, you missed. It was too late. You were too late. Uh it was it was quite rough. Um, but we're you know, eventually once then once the next season starts, we're gonna all try to get back together and get to a tournament. So we're we're looking forward to that. Um probably another mid-west one when it they come out. I'm hoping I'm hoping for St. Louis selfishly, because that's close for me. And it's that's close enough for the other one. I don't have to take a plane trip, basically.
SPEAKER_00Um but honestly, if it goes to St. Louis, you might be able to convince me if I have if I have the capabilities.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, it's not like it'd be too hard for you to go. You'd only miss like the weekend, you know, like on your on your days off, you'd miss like a Saturday, and maybe even maybe not even Sunday if you wanted to push it, but you know.
SPEAKER_00Well, well, what I'm saying is like if I have like the switch to and everything.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. Oh yeah, if to actually compete, that would be great. I would love that. Uh we're trying to get Jesse into competitive. I tried to get him to go to NASC with me, and number one, he I don't think you would have made it. But number two, that would have I don't think I I don't think you wanted to. Number one, I would have probably been asleep when the registration came out. Imagine if I feel like it was It was 7 p.m. and then 9 a.m. So Okay. But yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, I don't remember what day it was, but we're not we're gonna anyway, side tangent off.
SPEAKER_03Um my next note is Roshi, please know. They held back the first time. They had restraint, they had me having hope. And then uh Roshi, Roshi goes for it this time, he walks in, but it's it's still perverted and bad, but it's less problematic because three years have passed, and that we know canonically three years ago Bulma was 17, meaning she's now 20. It doesn't make it not bad anymore, but it makes it less problematic.
SPEAKER_00Like it technically, like, on a technicality, it is better. It doesn't necessarily mean it's okay, but it's not like go to jail worthy. Yeah, you're still gonna get punched in the face. Which I think he kind of does. Yeah, he definitely does. Especially because like it's not just Bulma this time, it's launch.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which is like, oh, now you've got now you've got especially blonde launch in Bulma. Yeah, you're getting absolutely destroyed.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and for my last note, uh my last note for the episode was just that Goku's back in the regular outfit again. Woo! I'm so happy that we got back to it. I didn't mind the purple outfit. It's reminiscent of a character who comes way later down the line that I really enjoyed the purple outfit on. But it also is not Goku, you know.
SPEAKER_00Like it there's something there's something just so right about Goku in the iconic orange outfit. Because if if even if you know, if you know anything about Goku, you recognize him with the hair, even if you just know like adult from the you recognize him with the hair and the orange outfit. Like there's those are the two things you recognize about.
SPEAKER_03Even like if you watch super, the hair, purple outfit or orange outfit, you know? Yeah. Um the only one where that gets messed up is uh GT, where he wear the hair and blue outfit, which is crazy, because he has like a sky blue outfit in that one for the whole time, basically, and it's like, what the heck are we doing here? But that's beside the point. Just something different. Otherwise, you're just like, wait, why is he in a blue outfit? Yeah. Why is he not that's the whole if you don't see Goku in a in the orange outfit, you're questioning why Goku is not in the orange outfit. Like that's how iconic and how entwined to him it is.
SPEAKER_00That's just him, that's just his character. And the other thing we we do find out is like that there's a funny joke about uh about like, dude, is that Jackie Chun?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00It's like, dude, I can't believe it. It's like, oh, there's someone, they're selling autograph postcards in the lobby.
SPEAKER_03Jackie Chun is making a killing off of his likeness. And I he was NIL before NIL existed.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And then the other thing that that we find out at the very end of the first episode, before we start getting into the preliminary battles, is there's 182 people injured in this fight.
SPEAKER_03Which is a pretty good turn. Like that's a pretty good turnout for the world, you know.
SPEAKER_00For like a world martial arts tournament, we're like, you know, there's probably people who want to enter it, but they know they'd get like one shot easily. By like like by even people in like their own community, they'd be like, I can't beat, I can't even beat like John from down the street. Why the heck am I entering this to waste my time flying out to like this remote papaya island just to get day one?
SPEAKER_03I bet that Sky Dragon was going to be here if it wasn't for the episode where Sky Dragon got his hit butt handed to him by Goku. And you then Goku being like, I can't wait to participate in this tournament. He's like, Well, I will not be going to this tournament.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It was nice knowing you guys. You guys go have fun, I'm gonna stay home and train.
SPEAKER_00It's like uh for like for sports reference, like for like a sports ref a recent sports reference, it's how everyone going into the InSaveway tournament's like, it's the Arizona Invitational. It's just like it's the Goku Invitational tournament. Yeah. It's like who line up to see who loses to Goku first.
SPEAKER_03Yep. And then I didn't really write a whole lot of notes for the first bit because it's kind of a rehash of like they tell us the rules of the tournament, which are the same rules as the last tournament. It's bigger, but the brackets are still the same. Two from each four quadrant make it out. It's all the the the next episode opens with the uh the only note I have is the ref's voice is funny. The ref voice is funny.
SPEAKER_04Because he's like, there are four quadrants going together, and um, we're gonna have all of you split up into these four quadrants, and two finalists from each quadrant will go on to the championship paths, which will be a single elimination tournament.
SPEAKER_00I just wrote down the whole like no time limit until and you fight until ring out or KF. But they did seem to mention the possibility of dying. Yeah. Not that like they were encouraging you to kill your opponent, but it was like they are like though the tournament organizers are not responsible for your death or any sort of like serious dismembered injury.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And so that it definitely seems like death probably or murder, you know, killing your opponent probably does get you eliminated, but it's not an outside of the chance possibility that it could happen.
SPEAKER_01Like on accident.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I guess after last tournament where it looked like you know, Jackie Chun murdered Goku in the middle of the ring when he's aped out, and Goku aping out in himself is like, yeah, crazy stuff happens at these tournaments. We can't promise you won't die.
SPEAKER_00So it's like we know we know those two characters are almost guaranteed to come back. So let's just like get ahead of the game and be like, we're not gonna pay for your like life insurance.
SPEAKER_03This isn't the fine print of the contract that we had we signed for you. Yeah, because they don't even have them like actually sign up, they just literally like tell them their names, like, okay, you're signed up.
SPEAKER_00It's in the terms and conditions of the what makes what makes me laugh about the whole sign-up thing is like that they really have to wait for Goku to show up. Couldn't they have just like said, yeah, Goku's on his way? Yeah, I I thought that too. Because like, because Goku doesn't even walk up with you with Roshi. Roshi just leads up like there's Goku. Goku's right there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, hey, look, there's Goku.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, the Puar thing would've worked if you just kept Puar at a distance. Or even if you put Parwar up to the table. The team probably wouldn't be recognized Goku. Yeah. Yeah. Well, he might, because Goku was a finalist.
SPEAKER_03The whole thing is you just have Roshi walk up and talk for him. Be like, yeah, this is Goku, he's competing, he's got a little bit of a sore throat, yada yada, he'll be good by tomorrow. And that's it. That's all you have to do. And then when Goku gets there, it's like, boy, you were late. We had to sign you up, you know. Um, I then the next thing I have is their eyes meet. It's time for a battle. Because we see Goku and um Tien looking at each other from across the room, and Tien's like, that's that kid. And Goku's like, I remember that three-eyed monster over there. And their eyes meet, it's time for a Pokemon battle.
SPEAKER_00He tried, he tried to hurt my f my new friend I made.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um, and then the next thing as I, you know, just the whole silly and silly ref voices where I put that in at. Um, and then that we jump to, oh, it was wait, what the heck are we doing here? That was the next note where it's we're in Yamcha's battle, and the guy just throws three planks of lid up in the air and punch, punch, punch, and it's like, okay.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, that's like, what's is that supposed to intimidate him? And I guess like like with what T Yin says in that moment, where he's like, he's like talking about like oh some people mistake like technique for overconfidence. I'm like, I guess like the guy thought that like Yamcha was showing off, he was like, I've gotta show off now. That's like the only explanation for it.
SPEAKER_03And I'm just like Because yeah, before it happens, Yamcha does this elaborate elaborate like yoga stretch pose to get into position for the fight. Yeah. And so I guess in that way he's like, Whoa, this guy looks good. I gotta try to spook him.
SPEAKER_01He's trying to intimidate me, but I'm not intimidated, I'm gonna intimidate him.
SPEAKER_03And three punks of wood in the hair. Aha, what do you think about that?
SPEAKER_00And then Yancha just does the whole like replay it three time punch. Replay it, does the whole like displacement, like after he does the little after image and just like slaps it in the face. Yeah. And it re- it replayed thrice.
SPEAKER_03Uh and then we see Krillin, like, just literally, like, in his fight against uh Andre the Giant, I mean Anton the Great, um, he gets grabbed and uh Yamcha's like, oh no, that's the end for him. And then uh Krillin's like, oh no, I'm gonna die. Just kidding. Um acting, I thought it was a pretty good actor. And that's one of my favorite lines from Krillin, like in the whole show so far, is him being like, before I was gonna before I started pursuing martial arts, I thought I would even get my hand at acting, but you know, and it's it's just such like it's so Krillin, disseminated Krillin in that with that large with that first fight, where he's just he's so sure of himself. But at least in this point, he's like able to back it up by this point.
SPEAKER_00He's been training just goes boom.
SPEAKER_03He's been training for four years at this point. He can actually back up his like his intimidation, his overconfidence.
SPEAKER_00Well, I guess his I guess his confidence and and implies that like he can't back it up.
SPEAKER_03So I guess it's his intense uh self-I think he's over time. I think he's overconfident in the long run, but in the short-term battle, he's just perfectly measured confidence. Yeah. Um because he just straight up grabs Anton or yeah, Anton and throws him over his shoulder by one finger.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because like it's it feels safe that they're not gonna let if they're gonna let any two characters meet in the preliminaries, this would be like a like a soft prediction. This is like an official prediction. But if they're gonna let any two characters meet in the preliminaries, it's probably Chiyatsu and Krillin.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I don't I don't think they're going to meet in the preliminaries.
SPEAKER_00Because there's only there's only seven there's right now there's only seven main characters we know of. Yeah. And there are eight preliminary round like championships.
SPEAKER_03Plots where there's the up because there's an upper and lower of each division, and those two people are fighting their own brackets to get to the top. Once you're in the top two, you get put into the the fine the main bracket. Yeah. The final bracket, I guess.
SPEAKER_00So basically, it's like you have four you have four sections, and then you have like it's like um creating the elite eight in the playoff. Yeah. In the uh uh March magnet.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, where you know you bring out the top two.
SPEAKER_00You then have you then have the regional final and then the final four.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And that's kind of what is going on here, but we won't have a regional final. They're all gonna be put into the a bracket and probably redrawn because that's what happened last time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um that's like that's the effect of it.
SPEAKER_03But then we actually get like a um a square off between Tien, Chiatsu, where we learn Chiyatsu's name, and Goku and the boys hanging out. And though jabs that are getting thrown during this, like talk between Yamcha and Tien is pretty great. They are throwing like verbal jabs back and forth at each other the entire time. I was like, this is this is good. Like, this is this is a good trash talk. Like, nothing is crossing the line, nobody's making fun of each other's mamas. It's just good old-fashioned. I can kick your butt. Well, guess what? I can kick your butt, you know.
SPEAKER_00But like uh-huh, I'll let you try. And then Jackie Chung coming over, like, don't you?
SPEAKER_02Ladies, ladies.
SPEAKER_01Don't get kicked out of the tournament.
SPEAKER_02Um, but then we then we smash it.
SPEAKER_01If I let you guys get kicked out of the tournament, I'm sure. My my cushion would kill me.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm sorry, Jackie.
SPEAKER_03I forgot. We we we'll we'll keep it under control.
SPEAKER_01We'll keep it in.
SPEAKER_03And Chin's like, I don't give a crap, but I'm also gonna walk away now. I don't give a crap, but I like to legally beat your butt. I like to legally beat your buttons. Eventually, we're gonna if you're as good as you say you are, we're gonna meet in the finals, if not before then. So let's just let this go. You know, let's just keep it going. Keep it keep it real. But then we jump cut back to Bulma and the gang that are not part of the tournament, minus Roshi, because he's still in the bathroom. Because apparently he ate some bad food on the plane and he has diarrhea this week.
SPEAKER_00Well, he probably ate bad food at the restaurant. And so, yeah, he's I think he got like bad noodles or something.
SPEAKER_03So he's in the tournament, or he's in the bathroom for most of the tournament, it seems to be. Um, but that doesn't stop us from having another decrepit old man come over and perv out on our main girls. And Shin is Shin feels the role of Roshi at this point, where he's like, hey, there's some pretty girls over there. Uh, you might get with. Roshi's a creepy old man. But me, I'm fabulous. You should come be a part of my team. We can all go hang out out. Baggy, you know what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00I love I love the like how this implies that there's a chance, there obviously there's a chance they're just they're just creepy old men. But there is a chance they learn how to be creepy old men by their master. Their master is a creepy old man.
SPEAKER_03It's the whole like picture of like the the uh the parents shouting at the kid and then the kid turning into a grown-up and shouting at his kid.
SPEAKER_02And then his kid is Goku, so he's just playing video games the whole time and it's not hitting him at all. He's got headphones on. So the Goku's like, I'm great. It's really what it feels like. It's yeah, it's really just that.
SPEAKER_00I like I like that. I want that to be that's my headcanon. It's like they learn how to be creepy old men from their creepy old man master.
SPEAKER_03Who knows? Maybe we'll see their master in a flashback sometime.
SPEAKER_00I mean, knowing Dragon Ball on flashback, we probably will meet him in 25 episodes is a good guess.
SPEAKER_03Um, one one note, one piece of note is when we get to the Tien fight, when Goku, like they're all like, Tien can't be that strong. You fought him, right, Goku? And he's like, he's really strong. But Goku's smile while talking about how good Tien is is just peak Goku where he's like, this guy's really strong.
SPEAKER_02I can't wait to fight him.
SPEAKER_00Uh like everyone else, like everyone's like, man, Goku, please, please confirm with us. He's like, no, he's actually, you're probably gonna lose. He's like, he's actually really good.
SPEAKER_02We all might lose. I don't even know if I can beat him, and that's exciting.
SPEAKER_03Um, it really reminds me, I've been re-watching Super, and there's this part in Super where Goku goes and fights some god or something, and the god, and they're like, uh Goku's like, I don't think I can win. Or it's like when they first hear about him. Uh, there's some other people that are like deities that are friends with Goku, and they're like, we can't let Goku and this guy meet.
SPEAKER_02Because if they meet, they're gonna fight and it's gonna ruin the world. And Goku's like, what do you mean? There's a guy out there that can I can fight that might be stronger than me? I can't wait. Let's go find him. It's literally that where Goku's like, oh Tien, he looks strong, he's really strong. I can't wait to fight him again. He might kill me. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's literally I trust my friends to find all the Dragon Balls and bring me back. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, but that's literally like that's my last note outside of there's a stupid freaking cliffhanger. Dad nabit. I just want to get to the next fight already.
SPEAKER_00Well, you know, now that we're actually into like actual plot plot moments, not saying that like the last couple episodes are a plot, but they were like filler episodes to kind of link the time frame. Yeah. It's like now that we're back into like, okay, each episode, each episode like has an overarching plot. Yeah, where we're gonna be starting to start hitting these cliffhangers.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're not like it's not one, they're not one-offs. They're they're all building on each other in a tournament. Because like there was an overarching plot, there was plots in every episode we've watched, but they haven't been like we haven't had really a big one like this since the Baba, like when the the Fight and the Fight. Yeah. Um, but I that's all the notes I have. I don't know if you have any more, Jesse.
SPEAKER_00No, I mean we kind of hit all the points. Like we wrote down most of the same notes like in different fashions.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we both kind of hit on the same points but differently. Yeah. Um, so with that, I guess we should start moving into our predictions. Uh Jesse's predictions from the um the previous two episodes for these episodes were um and we're gonna get introductions for the tournament, which we do. We get the introductions. We we don't get chiatsu at the start of the first episode, but we do get Tien's name. We get Tien name dropped. So we get introductions, we also meet Shin. Um Goku gets their last moment. Um, yes. And Goku, uh Roshi meets the other peer and pupils, yes. Uh this sets up a new rivalry. Yes, but I think you were thinking it was gonna be Goku and Tien, and it's actually Yamcha and Tien, it seems. Like Goku, Goku wants to be Tien's rival, but right now Tien's focus on Yamcha because it's not. It's kind of an overarching.
SPEAKER_00Because like, I mean, they it's like it's a dojo rivalry as well. Like it's yeah, like you could dig it in multiple different ways with setting up new rivalry.
SPEAKER_03Yamcha struggles in the prelims, that does not happen. You have at that point you were throwing like out on the wall being like, I know Yamcha becomes the punching bag of these of the show eventually. Hey, I've seen the meme.
SPEAKER_00We're not fully done with the prelims yet, so that could still come true.
SPEAKER_03But you were only saying it for these two episodes because you saw the name preliminary peril, which you assumed was about Yamcha, but really it's about Goku and that cliffhanger. Like, that's my that's my reading on what the episode was about.
SPEAKER_00You can either do that or it's the whole like they're start- they wanted to start fighting uh Tienn and stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I will tell you, Jesse, you already have missed one of your uh arc predictions. Because you had the prediction that Jackie Chung returns as a fan. He did not return as a fan. He returned as a fighter. So therefore you already missed it.
SPEAKER_00I kind of forgot I said that.
SPEAKER_03And then you said um that Goku is in the world martial arts tournament, he's gonna fight one of Tien Shinhan's pupils, because you put that one, and then you put the second one as Tien is either the trainer or the small white one, which both of those are also wrong. The only one only prediction for the arc you have left is Goku wins the tournament.
SPEAKER_02So you you push it off your chips in on that one. You blew through four of three of your fourth of your arc predictions in the first two episodes, which is rapid time for you. That's record timing. You were you actually what you actually blew through both of those in the first episode. All three, all three of them in the first episode. Hey, you know what? Sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. I I always say it, I just gotta get one.
SPEAKER_00You got one left to get there, so I think I think it's we're definitely building up to Goku's probably gonna win this entirely. Honestly, we're probably building up to Tien fights uh Jackie Chun and Goku has to fight uh Chiapsu or Krillin and like the semis, and then Goku has to fight Tien in the in the final.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I definitely see a TN, a TN Goku final. Um that that feels like it's coming.
SPEAKER_00And then at that point, like they're not gonna let Goku lose another final against not Jackie Chun.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You would think, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, do you I guess we'll find out, you know? Um but before we get there, we have two episodes next week that we'll be watching. And they're named There will Then there were eight and Yamsha versus Tien. What do you think are gonna happen in those two episodes?
SPEAKER_00Uh well, then there were eight. Let's start first, because the funny one. Yeah. Goku's gonna beat uh was it King Choppa? Yeah. King Choppa liked the first 15 seconds.
SPEAKER_03Goku beats King Choppa immediately.
SPEAKER_00I think he just beats him immediately. And then obviously, I think the Say the final eight are going to be Goku, Tien, Jackie Chun, Krillin, Yamcha, Chiaotsu, and then final eight are the named characters plus one. Plus, yeah, plus someone else.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean that's plus bacteria.
SPEAKER_00Plus bacterian!
SPEAKER_03We're throwing it out there! Yeah we're we're all on oh we forgot to talk about it. When we saw the giant, we really did think it was bacterium for the first time. We're like, oh, that's bacterium. But I saw the shoe and I was like, there's no way bacterium would wear a shoe. Bacterian. But I was like, I was holding out hope maybe bacterium changed his ways.
SPEAKER_00Maybe he shaved, he maybe maybe maybe he like maybe he cleaned up himself up.
SPEAKER_03He cleaned himself up, he got three years to train.
SPEAKER_00It would be a funny way to bring him back. He's like clean but he sucks at fighting now.
SPEAKER_03No, he cleaned, but he's good at fighting now. Like he's like actually a skilled fighter, but he's like he doesn't use his dirty tricks anymore. Fully intended. Um Jesse, but is that so you think those are that was for then there were eight.
SPEAKER_00The Bacterian part was a joke.
SPEAKER_03I put plus one. Um your second one was uh Yamcha vs. Tian. That's the second episode.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely I mean, absolutely. It's that's if the if not the entire episode, a bulk of that episode is just Yamcha and Tien.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I definitely think that that the bulk of the episode is gonna be them fighting.
SPEAKER_00Like that's I find that's I'd be stupid not to say that. Yeah with that title.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean that seems like that's the layout for this one.
SPEAKER_00And and I think the layout from what we're thinking of, Tien's gonna win that fight. Yeah. Just because we it you can just smell a Goku T in final.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't I um I don't yeah, I definitely don't think that like it'd be kind of crazy if to introduce these two new characters that are supposed to be really strong and have the and have Yamcha win. And it's not that that's not a dig against Yamcha, but it this is a we're gonna see Goku fighting.
SPEAKER_00Goku is the main character of the show. Yeah. So you're gonna have the main character fight the main, the new main antagonist for this tournament.
SPEAKER_03You can't have it any other way. Um but I guess with all our predictions out of the way, Jesse, what was your worst part? Um, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I guess like some of the I mean the the cliffhanger sucks, but uh, cliffhanger says, but I'm not gonna say that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um freaking screw that cliffhanger.
SPEAKER_00It's my worst part. I'm just kidding. Um It's kind of hard because all the purview moments that happen in here are like kind of funny and like a refreshing, they're kind of refreshing because we went a while with it. Like Roishi gets immediately punished.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And it's not Roshi. And we also got a subversion of the expectations with Roshi from what I thought was going to happen on the airplane. The airplane. It was Roshi was able to control himself in that moment.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but and then and then like it's not it's in a weird way, it's nice to see not just Roshi being a perf in these, in these in the show.
SPEAKER_03It's not Bulma's bad day where we find out Dr. Brees is also a perf. So that you know, we're I can take that Shin. It brought up a funny point where maybe Shin and uh Roshi were trained by the same trainer who also, yeah. A fun fact that just crossed my brain, by the way. Shin, I'm pretty sure, is the name of the bad guy peacock from or bad girl peacock from King of Panda 2. Peacocks are dead. But like we have Shin the crane, we have Shin the Peacock.
SPEAKER_02It's like, oh no. Yeah. That's a fun one.
SPEAKER_03That just that just popped in my brain. I'm like, birds are named Shin now. That's all I've got. Um, but as far as worst part, I mean it's hard to come up with one in these ones. There's nothing that stands out as bad. I guess the only thing I can think of is animal abuse or the s the midget slur. Like they don't like to be called midgets. And those are kind of as a joke, because it's like whatever. Like but like midget little people don't like to be called midgets, so that would be a bad part. Um but that's just aging poorly.
SPEAKER_00Um I guess if I was to if I was to say it like being a nitpicker and a sticker for the rules, had the super wrestler not get disqualified.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Come on, man. Why is the sumo wrestler allowed to fight? Well, actually, a bulk they pre- you know what, you know what, they probably tried to kick him out, and then like when they went to grab him, they like got they sunk into his stomach and disappeared.
SPEAKER_03My um my thought on it is it honestly, like I think it could have made the up made it better where Tian doesn't even have to fight his first round, so we don't even see his skill level. Yeah, like we don't see it for a little bit longer. It's literally Tien. Yeah, it's like how strong actually is Tian. Like we know he's strong enough to beat like weakened Goku by Hunger weakened by Hunger Goku, but is he really all that? Because we also saw Yamcha beat weakened by Hunger Goku. So maybe he's only on Yamcha's level, you know what I mean? Um like like pre-training Yamcha level or like or even post-training Yamcha level. Maybe those guys are close, you know. Um, but that didn't happen. So I I will I think I'll piggyback on that with you, is that like why didn't I get disqualified? Because it it could have led to more fun and entry where it's like, guess we won't get to see what he's got right now, you know. Move on. Um, and then it leaves more mystery for how strong he actually is.
SPEAKER_00It feels like a cop-out, but it's also there's there's not a whole lot here that like I hate.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there's nothing particularly all that bad in these episodes. These are solid, good episodes. Like good, solid episodes.
SPEAKER_00These have a very high floor. Yeah, they're they're full of the ceiling isn't like drastically much higher than the floor, but the floor is so high that it's like it's just everything's good.
SPEAKER_03The start of the arc is always gonna be pretty well unless you're boneless bad day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Which was the start of that arc. And it honestly was the tone setter for that arc incomplete, but we're not getting back into that.
SPEAKER_00So far, and our tier list, that is the worst arc so far.
SPEAKER_03What is your best part though, Jesse?
SPEAKER_00Dude, best part. Honestly, I'm a sucker for just seeing everybody get back together. Like it was something to see everybody get back together.
SPEAKER_03Seeing the family get back together, the gang.
SPEAKER_00And if and if I'm not gonna pick that, I I I assume I'm gonna mention what you're probably about to pick, which is the Krillin, like, oh I'm so hurt.
SPEAKER_02And then he like just beats him.
SPEAKER_03You know, my boy Kay Rillin is my best part.
SPEAKER_00But I'll I'll take I'll take the family reunion.
SPEAKER_03You know my boy Krillin is my best part. I love my boy K Rillin. That boy is great. He that boy nice with it, you know. He's like, oh no, I'm getting squeezed. I'm getting squeezed. Was my acting good? Did you really think I was gonna lose? Huh, huh? Throw. It's over. I just I love it. It makes me happy every time we get a cool Krillin moment because Krillin being cool makes me feel happy.
SPEAKER_00The depressing part about getting a cool Krillin moment is you know it's immediately gonna come back down to earth in the next couple of episodes.
SPEAKER_03But we're not there yet. So uh thank you guys all for listening to us. Uh I mean you can reach out to us at uh becomingsains at gmail.com. And we've been noticing the last couple weeks that our views have been getting better, and we love that. Um, but we don't also want to just stop there. We would love to see it get even bigger. And that's just a selfish bit, but it's also really nice to have a community of people who are listening to you, so I love that.
SPEAKER_00Like it's really encouraging to see the numbers start going up. Yeah. And like we were talking, it was like, yeah, we're seeing numbers go up, we're not seeing a lot of like physical engagement, but that that's not the important thing. But the important thing is like we're people are taking time out of their day to listen to us.
SPEAKER_03And we're grateful for that, and it makes us feel it makes us feel good. It makes the you know it releases the happy chemicals in the brain to see the number go up. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh but like in and again, it makes it feel like we're in in a way it stops us from feeling like we're just wasting time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Not that like being able to hang out with each other every every week and yeah, having scheduled hangout time is great for us.
SPEAKER_00Especially with now that in a year you'll be 30, I'll be I'm 25 now. Like we get to that age where a lot of people, especially a lot of siblings, kind of just like, uh, you know, hey, how you doing every couple weeks?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um But it's it's nice to have scheduled time for us. Um if you hear that, that's our cat or my cat's going crazy in the background. I apologize about that. We're almost done. We're we're almost done, so we're not gonna cut it. Because I've been Truman. And I've been Jesse. And the journey continues.
